Making progress

13 02 2010

Another project I’ve been working on is a knitted blanket for Wrap with Love. It’s slow progress… every now and then I’ll finish another square. But now I feel like it’s getting there, and hopefully by the end of winter I’ll have this ready to send off.

The finished blanket will be 4 squares wide by 7 squares long, so 6 more to go!

That old thing!

I just got back to work from holidays, and I was chatting to a colleague, talking about what we did over the break. Both of us are crafty people, and she was telling me all about the blanket she had been making and was nearly finished. Then she asked me, “How’s your blanket going?”

Here’s where it gets embarassing… I had to ask her which blanket she meant! I really do have that many projects on the go! Then she clarified, and said the green one. It honestly took me a moment to work out which one that actually was! I started it perhaps 4 years ago, and it’s about 4 or 5 squares away from being finished. Too close to being finished to not bother.

But I just haven’t felt like knitting any more on it for ages and ages, and then I just sort of forgot about it, in the back of my linen cupboard in a bag.

... there lurks the bag that it is stored in!

Now that it’s been mentioned though, I might have to get it out and finish off the squares. I’ve only got a few to go… and I can’t even remember why I stopped in the first place!

Hmmm.... wonder what that could be?

See, the pile of squares is pretty big!

I think I’ll take apart the bits I’ve sewn together too. I did that part before I learned to crochet… I think I’ll crochet around the edge of each square then join them so there is a bit of a border.

Of course, now that I’m back at work, I just have to find the time to do it all!

Close up... not sure if you can see the tumbling blocks pattern?

Wrap with love

23 07 2009

Sometimes, I’m in the mood for craft, but I don’t have the patience for anything fiddly.

When that’s the case, I usually pull out some of the numerous balls of 8ply acrylic I have stashed and knit some squares. I have been knitting these squares for a couple of years now and use them to create blankets for a charity called Wrap with love.  They ask people to knit or crochet squares and put them together to make blankets that are sent to those less fortunate who need them.

Here’s the current group of squares I have, enough for about half a blanket.

P7210178If you’re interested in helping, the squares should be 25cm by 25cm (mine are close, at least!). The blankets are formed using 4 squares by 7 squares.  All the details are on the Wrap with love link.

Hannah’s Baby Blanket

Hannah's baby blanket

The best thing about craft projects as gifts is that I have to finish them!  When one of my closest friends announced she was having a baby, I knew that I would try and make her something beautiful as her baby shower gift.

The blanket is polar fleece on the ‘upside’, with wool embroidery flowers at each corner. It has some thin batting, then a beautiful flower cotton print underside, and it is bound with satin ribbon.

The whole thing was finished about an hour or so before the shower, leaving me enough time to get dressed and ready to go!  My friend loved it, and I can’t wait to meet Hannah!
